Má opened Lan & Linh with twelve tables, one forty-quart stockpot and recipes she carried from Saigon. Today her daughter Linh runs the kitchen — same broth, a bigger room, and a line out the door on Sundays.

    Beef bones, charred onion and ginger, star anise, cinnamon and clove — poured at a rolling boil so the rare beef cooks right in your bowl.

Our story

From Saigon to southwest Houston.

  1. 1996

    Lan opens a twelve-table pho shop in a strip mall off Bellaire Boulevard, and names it after herself and her six-year-old daughter, Linh.

  2. 2004

    Sunday lines stretch past the nail salon next door. The bánh mì counter opens.

  3. 2013

    Linh comes home from culinary school and joins Má on the line.

  4. 2020

    Online ordering and curbside pickup keep the kitchen busy through a hard year.

  5. Today

    Linh runs the kitchen. Má still tastes the broth every morning at six.
